Pipitone Goes 5-for-5
|
It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-5 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Brecken Pipitone, it came around today.
The 21-year-old center fielder scattered hits all over Centene Stadium to pace the 10-2 Moose Jaw Diamond Dogs victory over the Great Falls Voyagers.
Great Falls skipper Vinny Rodriguez told reporters in the press room that "Pipitone deserves a hat-tip."
"He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Pipitone hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit."
Brecken Pipitone doubled in the 1st, doubled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and singled in the 7th.
This year, Pipitone has collected a .260 batting average to date with 61 hits in 235 at-bats, 23 RBIs, 6 home runs and scored 29 times. He has played in 55 games.
