Hickory Defeats Charleston, 5-2
|
The Hickory Crawdads picked up a win at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park, knocking off the Charleston RiverDogs, 5-2. On the mound for Hickory was right-hander Rutledge Venable. He played a key role in the triumph. In 7.2 innings, Venable surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 3 and walking 1. He allowed 2 runs. Randy Aamodt was credited with the save for Hickory, his 8th of the season.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Frederick Williams? The Hickory center fielder had a 2-run single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Crawdads on top, 4-1. For the game, Williams had 1 double and 2 singles in 3 at-bats.
"I made some pitches when I had to," said Venable.
The Crawdads move to 61-75 with the win, while the RiverDogs drop to 58-78.
