The Hickory Crawdads got a superb performance from pitcher Matt Herlin, but the Greenville Drive still won the game, 6-3. Herlin threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball. The winner was Greenville reliever Ryan Sabo, now 1-1. The loser was Layton Drake. With the win over Hickory, the Drive improved to 54-79.

Shaun Thomas delivered a big hit for Greenville. The designated hitter drilled a 3-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Drive ahead, 6-3. It was his only hit, but it was a beauty.

"To get where we want to as a team, we all have to do things out of our comfort zone," Thomas told the Greenville Observer.
