Tourists Fight for 5-4 Win
|
Asheville Tourists starter Elijah Bratberg pitched effectively against the Savannah Bananas at McCormick Field. The right-hander spearheaded his team's 5-4 win. Joe Woodall, now 9-7, was credited with the win in 2.2 innings of relief. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. Paul Maginot was credited with the save, his 3rd in 6 tries.
Had Victor Benavidez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Benavidez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 5-4, in favor of the Tourists.
Benavidez told reporters after the game: "This one was touch and go, but we were able to put it in the win column."
Asheville is now 73-63. Savannah is 58-78.
