Greenville Upended by Columbus, 7-0
|
2061 is shaping up to be a forgettable year for the Greenville Drive.
The Columbus Catfish beat the Greenville Drive, 7-0, at Progressive Field. Starting pitcher Chance Ortmeyer was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Ortmeyer, now 7-5, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 0, and allowing no runs.
Columbus first baseman Abel Newell contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the first. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 45th hit of the season and put the Catfish ahead, 1-0.
"This was a nice win for us," said Ortmeyer. "It's one more step toward our ultimate goal."
The third-place Catfish hiked their record to 80-43.
