The 7-2 Arkansas win over St. Petersburg was due in large part to Randy Kennedy. The Travelers third baseman was 2 for 3 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Boyd McKinnon was the winner. He's now 11-4. The loser was 22-year old right-handed pitcher Aaron Flores. The Travelers, at 90-41, sit in first place in the Southern League Texas Division.
Tied up with the Flying Squirrels in the bottom of the fifth inning, the Travelers got a boost from second baseman Ed Chiasson. With runners on 1st and 2nd, Chiasson saw a 1-0 cutter from Aaron Flores and hit a run-scoring single to break the stalemate and put Arkansas on top, 3-2.
In comments to the Arkansas News, Kennedy admitted that he doesn't always push himself. "But the results," he said, "speak for themselves."
