Flying Squirrels Rally For 3-2 Win
|
St. Petersburg Flying Squirrels starter Cristóbal Cruz pitched his team past the Corpus Christi Hooks, 3-2. The win went to Yoanis Duran in relief. His record improves to 2-0. Jeff Ponton took the loss. Curtis Lynch picked up his 22nd save of the season.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Kyrie Kerr came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Corpus Christi pitcher Jeff Ponton, he hit a 1-2 curveball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting St. Petersburg on top, 3-2.
"Pedal to the metal" is how St. Petersburg manager Flip Brooks described his team's approach.
St. Petersburg is now 62-58. Corpus Christi is 71-49.
