Evansville Gets Riveting Walk-Off Win
|
The Evansville Triplets faced a tough opponent in Inland Empire pitcher Steve Engstrom, but did just enough to pull out the victory at BB&T Stadium by a final score of 4-3. Engstrom went 5.2 innings and allowed 1 run. The win was credited to 26-year old right-handed pitcher Gavin Flynn in relief. His record improves to 4-1. Chris Campbell took the loss. The first-place Triplets, at 82-53, now lead their division by 9½ games.
Brandon Speight was the walk-off hero for Evansville. With the game tied in the bottom of the ninth inning, the Triplets center fielder hit a dramatic run-scoring single to send the teams home.
"It's great when the crowd goes berserk," Speight said.
