Sounds Deny Sidewinders, 3-2
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Nashville Sounds and the Tucson Sidewinders, pitcher Jimmy Jay Sherry was the difference between victory and defeat. The Nashville left-hander earned kudos in the 3-2 Sounds win. Sherry, now 10-5, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 5, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. Raoul Córdova earned the save, his 20th.
Simon Gantenbein had a big 2-run double for the Sounds in the bottom of the first inning. With Nashville leading 1-0 and runners on 2nd and 3rd, he got a fastball from Jayson Sproull and swatted a double to center. It was his 15th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Sounds ahead, 3-0.
Gantenbein told reporters after the game: "Close wins always feel extra good."
Nashville now owns a record of 67-63.
