The Erwin Mountaineers topped the Welch Miners, 7-4, with youngster Rich Mays playing a key role. Mays was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 3 for the Mountaineers in the win. Morris Freimark earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed 1 run on 2 hits in 2.1 innings. He upped his record to 5-0. Getting the save was Ethan Penny, his 9th.

Mays contributed a big hit, a 3-run home run, for Erwin in the top of the fifth. With his team trailing 3-2, Mays took a changeup from Juan Piña and stroked the home run to left. His 5th home run of the season allowed the Mountaineers to leap in front, 5-3.

"I'm just happy to help the team win," Mays told the Erwin Citizen.
