Black Diamonds Clip Mustangs in Tight Contest, 3-1
|
The Lethbridge Black Diamonds welcomed the Billings Mustangs to an afternoon game at Dehler Park.
Billings wasted an exceptional performance by pitcher Camren Averhart, falling to the Lethbridge Black Diamonds, 3-1. Averhart threw 7.0 innings of shutout ball for the losing team. Lethbridge reliever Myles Davidovich picked up the win. Clint Devlin took the loss for Billings. Mancelo Jarquin was credited with the save for Lethbridge, his 7th of the season.
Lethbridge needed the clutch hitting of Nathaniel Nyland to notch the win. The second baseman hammered a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Black Diamonds on top, 2-1. For the game, Nyland had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"I don't feel you win baseball games by working harder than the other team or 'wanting it more,'" Nyland told the Lethbridge Times. "You win just by scoring more runs."
Their 31-27 record puts the Black Diamonds 5th in the Pioneer League North Division.
