Behind the hitting of Walt Avila, the Tacoma Rainiers stopped the El Paso Chihuahuas, 5-3. Avila went 2-2 with 2 singles and a walk for the Rainiers. Tacoma reliever Giovanni Keener picked up the win, upping his record to 5-0. Oliver Ferry absorbed the loss. U.N. Krohn earned the save, his 7th, for the Rainiers.

Had Alexander Allen not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Allen hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Rainiers.

"We'll keep playing hard and let the chips fall where they may," said Tacoma manager Steve Osborn.

The first-place Rainiers now have a win-loss record of 70-42.
