In a well-pitched game between the Round Rock Express and the Sacramento River Cats, pitcher Justus Van Eps was superb. The Round Rock right-hander helped his team win, 3-1. Ron Black sewed up the save, his 14th. The 4th-place Express hiked their record to 56-55.

J.C. Tejada had a big 2-run home run for the Express in the bottom of the fifth inning. With Round Rock leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a changeup from former first round draft pick Emmett Lucas and punished it. The result was his 3rd home run of the season, which put the Express on top, 3-0.

"Every play was important. Every out was important," said Express manager Chris York.
