A good performance from left fielder Elder Escalante helped the Kannapolis Intimidators defeat the Hickory Crawdads, 10-2. Escalante was 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 4 for the Intimidators. Ben Tropea, 3-0, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. Kannapolis is now 80-37.
Kannapolis used the timely hitting of Dan Stallings to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Intimidators on top, 4-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We can't expect to win," said Hickory manager Ken Ruggles, "when we play like that."
