Charleston Beats Columbus, 5-4
|
The Charleston RiverDogs scooted past the Columbus Catfish, 5-4, at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park. Charleston right fielder Kevin Benson, in particular, performed like a star. Walter Hinckley, credited with the win in relief, is now 11-2. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.2 innings. Christian Hellinger earned his 18th save in 20 tries.
Dale Capuano had a big 2-run double for the RiverDogs in the bottom of the third inning. With Charleston leading 2-1 and the bases loaded, he got a curveball from Oscar Armiso, who is tied for 2nd in the SAL with a 8.9 K/9 rate, and swatted a double to center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the RiverDogs ahead, 4-1.
Charleston manager Ramon Acosta was pleased with the team's effort. "Our guys played hard, they played all the way through," he said.
The second-place RiverDogs sport a record of 72-48.
