Kannapolis got a valiant performance from pitcher Pluto Benedith, but it wasn't enough to beat the Hagerstown Suns. Hagerstown won the game, 3-2. Benedith threw 7.0 innings of 3-hit ball for the losing team. The first-place Suns have their sights set on making a deep playoff run.

Hagerstown used the timely hitting of Maximilian Armstrong to seize the win. The designated hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Suns on top, 3-2. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.

"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Kannapolis manager Wally Franklin.
