Triplets Fall to 66ers, 3-1
|
The Inland Empire 66ers and Evansville Triplets played a tight game with the hosts claiming a hard-fought win.
In a well-pitched game between the Inland Empire 66ers and the Evansville Triplets, pitcher Alfonso Clay was superb. The Inland Empire right-hander helped his team win, 3-1. Jeremiah Tubach, now 8-4, was credited with the win in 2 innings of relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 1 and walking 1. Brendan Smith, credited with the save, is now 18 for 23 in save opportunities.
A defensive lapse proved costly in the contest. In the bottom of the seventh, with the game tied, E.J. Woodis was at the plate when Inland Empire scored 2 on an error. The miscue enabled the 66ers to go in front, 3-1.
"You can't take yourself too seriously," Woodis told the Inland Empire Chronicle. "But at the end of the day, we do play to win ballgames."
Inland Empire is second in the Pacific Coast League Pacific Division with a record of 62-43.
