The 9-5 Iowa win over Winnipeg was due largely to Liam Schmidt. The Cubs first baseman went 2-4 with a home run, while scoring 2 and driving in 4. Locksley Sears, the winner, is now 5-11. He struck out 9 and walked 0 over 7.1 innings, while allowing 5 runs on 8 hits. Iowa is 5th in the Pacific Coast League American Divison with a record of 50-50.
With Iowa leading 5-4 in the bottom of the sixth, Schmidt hit a fastball from Isaiah Chaiman for a grand slam home run. It was his 7th home run of the season and put the Cubs ahead, 9-4.
