Triplets Handle Chihuahuas, Grab 4-0 Win
|
The Evansville Triplets beat the El Paso Chihuahuas, 4-0, at BB&T Stadium. Starting pitcher D.J. Cummings was a big reason why. He held his opponent in check all game. Cummings, now 5-2, was the winner. In 5.1 innings, he gave up 7 hits, while striking out 5, walking 1, and allowing no runs. Ben Williams earned the save for Evansville, his 2nd of the year.
The Triplets got a big at-bat from left fielder Sterling Jovel. For the game, Jovel went 1-3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the first, with runners on 1st and 3rd, he stroked a 3-run home run. His 8th home run of the season gave Evansville a 3-0 lead.
"Main thing is I want the team to win," Cummings told a reporter after the game. "Just have to go out there, take care of my job, and give my team a chance to win."
By defeating El Paso, the first-place Triplets improved to 38-24.
