Goldeyes Need Extra Innings to Top Sounds, 8-2
|
The Winnipeg Goldeyes faced a tough opponent in Nashville pitcher Willie Beaulieu, but did just enough to pull out the victory at First Tennessee Park by a final score of 8-2. Beaulieu went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs. Winnipeg reliever Oneil Smith picked up the win, upping his record to 3-0. Jeff Hickam shouldered the loss. Winnipeg is now 24-19, Nashville 24-19.
It could have been a different outcome for Winnipeg, had it not been for Rick Sheley, the 23-year old second baseman . Sheley contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put Winnipeg up, 3-2.
"Tough ballgame, tough loss," said Nashville manager Darius Hogan.
