The Tacoma Rainiers got a stellar performance from pitcher J. David Thomas, who handcuffed the Tucson offense en route to a win, 4-1, at Cheney Stadium. Janito Ceita earned save number 14 this season. The Rainiers raised their record to 22-11.

Thomas was effective for Tacoma, seldom allowing the Sidewinders to square up a pitch. The right-hander tossed 98 pitches over 7.1 innings. He limited Tucson to just 1 run on 1 hit.

In comments to the Tacoma Observer, Thomas admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
