Edge Rebuff Rainiers, 5-3
|
Sonny Pitts, who is tied for 5th in the PCL in quality starts with 4, had a strong outing for the Edmonton Edge against the Tacoma Rainiers at Cheney Stadium. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 5-3 win. Pitts yielded 2 runs over 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 7 hits, walked 2, and struck out 6. His record improves to 2-3. Skip Washington finished the game for Edmonton and earned his 2nd save.
Jordan Page had a big 2-run double for the Edge in the top of the fourth inning. With Edmonton leading 1-0 and runners on 1st and 2nd, he got a fastball from Erubiel Martin, who is tied for 9th in the PCL in strikeouts with 31, and swatted a double to left-center. It was his 5th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Edge ahead, 3-0.
Edmonton manager Aarón Lomeli was pleased with the team's effort. "It was just a good, gutsy performance by everybody," he said.
Edmonton, now 13-19, holds down 8th place in the Pacific Coast League American Divison.
