Aces Keep Clicking, Win, 1-0
|
In a low-scoring affair between the Reno Aces and the Honolulu ThunderSharks, pitcher Jayson Griffin was the difference between victory and defeat. The Reno left-hander earned kudos in the 1-0 Aces win. In 7 innings, Griffin surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 6 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. Julio Andrade collected save number 6.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Aces had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when second baseman J.R. Tormoehlen hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Dino Cortez and made the score 1-0, Aces. Tormoehlen was 2-3 with 2 singles.
Tormoehlen told reporters after the game: "Runs were scarce, so we had to work hard to get the W."
Reno, at 13-2, is off to a blistering start.
