Blues Beat Red Sox, 9-5
|
Alex Nicholson was instrumental in his team's 9-5 triumph over the Boston Red Sox. The third baseman was 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2 for the Memphis Blues. Clark Bryant, the winning pitcher, is now 5-0. He went 5.2 innings, allowing 5 runs on 6 hits, while fanning 5 and walking 3. Da'Shawn Evans earned the save for Memphis, his 2nd.
Memphis left fielder R.J. Brown contributed a timely at-bat in the top of the third. With two down, he hit a fastball into left field for a 2-run single. It was his 51st hit of the season and put the Blues ahead, 4-0.
"There's a lot of passion in our clubhouse," said Brown. "When we put it together we're a great ball club."
The Eastern Region Atlantic Division-leading Blues have a record of 26-22.
