The 2062 season did not get off to quite the start the New Orleans Baby Cakes had hoped, with an opening day loss to the Iowa Cubs at Zephyr Field. The final score was 1-0. Starting Pitcher Bill Cave was the top performer for Iowa. Cave got the win, improving to 1-0. He gave up 7 hits and walked 3 over 8 innings. He allowed no runs. Maureo Lopez picked up the save for Iowa, his 1st of the year.

Iowa won the game in part because of Constantino Gallardo. The left fielder ripped a solo home run in the top of the second inning to put the Cubs ahead, 1-0. For the game, Gallardo had 1 double and 1 home run in 4 at-bats.

"When you have a good rhythm and good flow, it's nice to just go out there and pound the strike zone with confidence," said Cave.
