Both teams had their chances, but the Gwinnett Stripers eventually prevailed.
The Gwinnett Stripers beat the Maine Grizzlies, 7-6, in part because of catcher Nolan Frye. He went 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 times and driving in 2. David Tilley was credited with the save, his 1st in 1 tries.
Gwinnett used a clutch at-bat from Kevin Phillips to capture the win. The center fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the fourth inning to put the Stripers ahead, 6-3. It was his lone hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Gwinnett manager Heath Eddings.
Gwinnett, at 71-64, sits in 4th place in the International League Southwest Division.
