Bears Rebuff Wizards, 4-2
|
The Newark Bears got a marvelous performance from pitcher Finley Harper. The right-hander kept the Orlando offense from ever getting much traction. The result was an impressive 4-2 Newark victory at Valiants Ballpark. Harper, the winner, moves to 5-2. He threw 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 1 walk. Amber Klebe earned his 2nd save in 2 tries.
In the bottom of the first, Chávez Feliz delivered a clutch hit. With two gone and the bases loaded, the Newark first baseman hit a 2-run single, putting the Bears in front, 4-2.
"I play this game for myself and my family, but of course it's always nice when we can win," said Harper.
The 7th-place Bears are 65-69.
