The Birmingham Barons, despite a fine performance by Rochester pitcher Stewie Asher, grabbed a 2-1 win in 10 innings at Raley Field. Asher allowed no runs over 5.1 innings. Reliever Erinyo Zamarripa picked up the win. His record improves to 5-1. Kelley Graser, who leads the IL in saves with 33, took the loss. The second-place Barons have won 5 in a row.
Birmingham got a knockout punch from Wil Solís. The left fielder hammered a solo home run in the bottom of the tenth inning to win the game. It might've been his only hit, but it decided the outcome.
"This game will make a man of you," said Steve Anderson, the Birmingham skipper, "if it doesn't kill you first."
