Stripers Edge Clippers, 3-2
|
Gwinnett turned a fine outing from starter Tom Cubitt into a victory over the Columbus Clippers at Huntington Park. The final score was 3-2. Cubitt, now 10-6, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 4, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. Picking up his 23rd save was 22-year old right-handed pitcher Zachary Murch.
William Aharoni, who is tied for 8th in the IL with a .897 OPS, had a direct impact on the outcome. Aharoni contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning to put Gwinnett up, 1-0.
"Tom's not intimidated by who's stepping into the batter's box," said Gwinnett manager Jeremy Milby.
The 5th-place Stripers are now 68-65, the Clippers 67-66.
