Extra-Inning Win by Chiefs Over Dundies
|
The Syracuse Chiefs handed the Scranton Dundies a loss at PNC Field. The final score was 9-5 in 11 innings. Max Smallwood was one of the major contributors for Syracuse. In addition to his 1 single and 1 home run, he scored 2 runs and drove in 4. At 73-63, the Chiefs claim third place in the International League Northeast Division.
The game was at a stalemate until right fielder Hugo Avila came to bat in the top of the 11th. Facing Scranton pitcher Terry Takahashi, he hit a 2-0 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Syracuse on top, 6-5.
"I'll play 10 innings, I'll play 20," said Chiefs manager Abe Blowers. "Whatever it takes to win the ballgame."
