Barons Lose, 3-1, as Tides Rally
|
Fans who congregated at Raley Field were treated to extra-inning drama.
The Norfolk Tides faced a tough opponent in Birmingham pitcher Alfonso Barbosa, but still scratched out a win at Raley Field by a final score of 3-1 in 11 innings. Barbosa went 8 innings and allowed 1 run. Norfolk reliever Frank Courson picked up the win, upping his record to 9-5. Joel Kneedler absorbed the loss. R.J. Leger got credit for the save for Norfolk. It was his 1st of the year.
Boyd Hicks had the most critical at-bat for Norfolk. With two in the top of the 11th inning, Hicks hit a 1-2 fastball from Joel Kneedler for a 2-run single. It put Norfolk in front, 3-1.
"This win should put a little bounce in our step," said Hicks.
The win puts the Tides at 52-80, while the Barons drop to 69-63.
