Delgado Excels, But Barons Win
|
Toledo first baseman Ofelio Delgado had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 11-8, to Birmingham at Fifth Third Field. Delgado hit 2 home runs. He drove in 6 runs and scored twice. Eden Rice came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The right-hander allowed 3 runs on 5 hits in 3.1 innings. His record now stands at 2-1. Hudson Wilt picked up the save for Birmingham, his 7th of the year.
Birmingham used a clutch at-bat from Griffin Kelley to capture the win. The right fielder hammered a 3-run home run in the top of the sixth inning to put the Barons ahead, 8-6. It was his lone hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a humdinger.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Kelley told the Birmingham Herald. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
After today's action, Birmingham sits at 70-59, while Toledo falls to 65-64.
