Clippers Down Mud Hens, 5-2
|
The Columbus Clippers topped the Toledo Mud Hens, 5-2, at Fifth Third Field. Columbus third baseman Darion Clegg was a spark plug for the offense. He went 4 for 5 with a double and 3 singles. He scored 2 times. Kenkichi Sakubara snagged the win in relief. He goes to 6-5 on the season. Zachary Gilbert suffered the loss. Columbus currently is in 4th place in the International League Southwest Division at 65-61.
Who knows how it might've ended, had it not been for Michael Taroon? The Columbus catcher had a run-scoring single in the top of the sixth inning to put the Clippers on top, 3-2. For the game, Taroon had 1 double and 2 singles in 4 at-bats.
Clegg called the win "a lesson in teamwork."
