Getting a good performance from second baseman Joe Preiss, the Gwinnett Stripers defeated the Newark Bears, 4-3. Preiss went 2-4 with 2 singles. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for the Stripers. Gwinnett pitcher Stephen McGeary earned the win, hiking his record to 2-3. Frank McCoy suffered the loss. Zachary Murch earned his 20th save in 27 chances.

Gwinnett center fielder Hunter Krupinski contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the first. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a run-scoring single. It was his 44th hit of the season and put the Stripers ahead, 4-0.

"This is a great group to be a part of, and it's a big win for us," Preiss told the Gwinnett Observer.

The Stripers bumped their record to 63-58 with this latest triumph.
