Chiefs Deal Knights 5-1 Setback
|
Syracuse starter Burnum Skinner put a stranglehold on the Charlotte offense. The right-hander had complete command of his fastball in leading the Chiefs to a 5-1 win. Skinner got the win, improving to 4-11. He allowed 5 hits and walked 2 over 6 innings. Skinner allowed no runs. Wildman Mercado earned the save for Syracuse, his 13th of the year.
In the bottom of the fourth, Syracuse catcher Wesley Cromwell had a productive at-bat. With runners on 1st and 2nd and one out, Cromwell stroked a run-scoring single to center. It made the score 1-0, Syracuse. For the game, he went 1 for 3. He drove in 2 runs.
"We take it day by day here," said Skinner, "and today was a good one for us."
The 8th-place Chiefs lifted their record to 45-69.
