Drillers Deal RockHounds 5-4 Defeat
|
The Tulsa Drillers topped the Midland RockHounds, 5-4, in Southern League action at Hammons Field. The game was highlighted by the performance of Tulsa pitcher Gervino Cúper. Cúper, now 5-1, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 3, walking 1, and allowing 2 runs. James Moran was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 7 of 14 save opportunities.
The Drillers got an important contribution from right fielder Nickolas Matthias, who in the bottom of the fourth punched a full count fastball into center for a 2-run triple. It was his 2nd triple of the season and put the Drillers ahead, 5-2.
"Nice to tuck this win away," said Matthias.
With this game in the books, Tulsa is 52-46, Midland 49-49.
