Boston Defeats Virginia, 7-3
|
The Boston Red Sox picked up a win at The Sparrow's Nest, knocking off the Virginia Black Bears, 7-3. Starting pitcher Qu'wan Whaley played a key role in the triumph. Whaley picked up the win for Boston, going 7 innings. He gave up 1 run on 6 hits. He now sports a record of 1-6. Boston, at 19-26, occupies last place in the Eastern Region North Division.
Boston used a well-timed hit by Ruben Otero to capture the win. The right fielder socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Red Sox ahead, 3-0. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.
"Qu'wan -- his tempo and rhythm were good," said Red Sox manager Logan Keaton. "He was the key to us winning."
