Flying Squirrels Come Up Short at Midland, 5-4
|
A 4-RBI performance from Finley Wehler helped the Midland RockHounds beat the St. Petersburg Flying Squirrels, 5-4. Aidan Phillips, the winner, improved to 1-7. He held the Flying Squirrels to 4 runs on 5 hits over 5 innings, while striking out 3 and walking 4. Jeremiah Whiting locked down his 22nd save.
Wehler contributed a big hit, a grand slam home run, for Midland in the bottom of the third. With his team trailing 3-1, Wehler took a changeup from Timothy Murphey and stroked the home run to left. His 6th home run of the season allowed the RockHounds to leap in front, 5-3.
"Finley is still learning," said RockHounds manager Edgar Mendoza. "The sky's the limit for him."
Midland has a record of 47-48, placing them 6th in the Southern League Texas Division.
