In a tight contest between the New York Mets and the Chicago White Sox, J.B. Whitson was the determining factor. The New York left-hander sparkled in his team's 3-0 win. New York designated hitter Evan Furtado contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to center field for a 2-run single. It was his 134th hit of the season and put the Mets ahead, 3-0.
