The Detroit Tigers used the hitting of center fielder Frank Combs to subdue the Miami Marlins, 5-4. For the game, Combs was 3-4 with a home run and a double. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. Johnny Drapkin picked up the win in relief, improving his record to 5-1. Jeron Murrow was tagged with the loss. The win elevated the Tigers to 79-78.

Detroit used a timely hit from Wes Eber to get the win. The shortstop stroked a 2-run double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Tigers ahead, 5-3. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it made an impact.

"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Combs.
