California Upended by Vancouver, 6-2
|
Vancouver Cascades starter Anton Helguera hurled his team past the California Angels, 6-2. The winning pitcher was Helguera, now 13-9. He tossed 8 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 4 and fanning 9. Vancouver raised its record to 81-73 with the win.
Stan Priester had a big run-scoring double for the Cascades in the bottom of the sixth inning. With Vancouver leading 3-2 and a runner on 1st, he got a sinker from 26-year old left-handed pitcher Max Janca and swatted a double to right-center. It was his 15th double of the season, and more importantly, it put the Cascades ahead, 4-2.
"Pleased with the effort and the win," said Cascades manager Mick Simmons.
