Expos Spill Red Sox, 2-1
|
The Boston Red Sox got a superb performance from pitcher Qu'wan Whaley. Still, it wasn't enough to beat Montreal. The Expos won the game, 2-1. Whaley threw 5.2 innings allowing 1 runs. The winner was Montreal reliever José Sánchez, now 5-4. The loser was Jake Laviolette. Zach Strain closed the game out for Montreal, earning his 14th save.
Montreal used the timely hitting of Brian Ottman to seize the win. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Expos on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Montreal manager Dirk Botelho.
Montreal goes to 87-67, Boston to 60-94.
