The New York Mets defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 5-2, in 12 innings in American League action at Busch Stadium. New York pitcher Adam Conwell had a standout performance. Purvis Chigozie picked up the win in relief. His record improves to 3-4. Franklin Schmitt suffered the loss. Randy Castriotta recorded the save, his 4th.

Who knows how it would've ended, had it not been for Daniel López? The 24-year old second baseman López stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the 12th inning to put New York up, 3-2. For the game, he was 2 for 5, including 1 double and 1 single.

López called getting the win a "good ending to a long game."
