Boston Hexed: No-Hit by Swanson
|
New York Mets starter Adam Swanson said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.
"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" Swanson recalled.
The left-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.
The New York left-hander no-hit the Boston Red Sox 4-0 at Citi Field, finishing with 4 walks and 10 strikeouts, facing only 30 batters.
"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," Swanson admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."
On the year, Swanson has recorded 1 save with a 5-5 record over 87.1 innings. He has mowed down 131 batters on strikes and walked 29 with an ERA of 3.61.
