Astros Hold Off Cubs, 2-1
|
The Houston Astros did just enough to secure a victory over the Chicago Cubs, 2-1, at Minute Maid Park. Nobody did more than pitcher Jordan Dozier. Houston now has a record of 90-61 with the win.
The Astros got a big at-bat from designated hitter Burl Shearer. For the game, Shearer went 1-4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 2nd, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 16th home run of the season gave Houston a 2-1 lead.
"That's baseball," said Chicago manager Phil Ross. "Sometimes the other team plays better than yours."
