Two good teams met in a late-season showdown.

Fresno got a strong outing from J.B. Whitson as the Falcons defeated the Toronto Blue Jays, 3-2, at Savemart Center. Whitson picked up the win for Fresno, going 6.2 innings. He gave up 2 runs on 1 hits. He now sports a record of 14-7. Woody Jones got the save, his 36th in 38 chances.

The Falcons got a big at-bat from shortstop Ray Mallory. For the game, Mallory went 1 for 3 with a double. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the fourth, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a 2-run double. His 19th double of the season gave Fresno a 2-0 lead.

"My job is to throw quality pitches, go as deep as I can, and give us an opportunity," said Whitson.
