White Sox Trounce Cardinals, 12-1
|
The Chicago White Sox easily defeated the St. Louis Cardinals, 12-1, at Guaranteed Rate Field, with center fielder Penley Spurlock a main contributor to the win. He was 4 for 4 with 4 singles and a walk, while scoring 2 times for Chicago. The first-place White Sox have a one-game lead in their division.
Lawrence McIver had a big 2-run home run for the White Sox in the bottom of the first inning. With Chicago leading 1-0 and a runner on 2nd, he sized up a changeup from Shawn Veccia, who is tied for 10th in the AL in wins with 13, and punished it. The result was his 7th home run of the season, which put the White Sox on top, 3-0.
"It's always nice to be on the winning side," Spurlock told the Chicago Observer. "But we take nothing for granted."
