4-3 Win Gets Memphis to 82-66
|
The Memphis Blues did just enough to sneak past the Baltimore Orioles, 4-3, at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Memphis pitcher Mickey Whitcomb, in particular, had a standout performance. Whitcomb, now 11-14, was the winner. In 7 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 8, walking 1, and allowing 3 runs. Ryland Wilson converted his 2nd save in 2 tries.
It could have been a different outcome for Memphis, had it not been for Alex Nicholson, the 32-year old third baseman . Nicholson contributed a run-scoring double in the top of the third inning to put Memphis up, 4-0.
"Mickey was able to execute his pitches," said Memphis manager Roberto Rivas. "Simple as that."
The Blues, at 82-66, sit in second place in the Eastern Region Atlantic Division.
