Ortiz Shines, But Twins Fall Short
|
The Minnesota Twins got a superb performance from third baseman Jordi Ortiz, but the Cleveland Indians still won the game, 11-9. Ortiz was 3-4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 5 runs and scored once. The winner in relief was Javy Piña. He is now 5-5. The left-hander allowed no runs on 3 hits in 2.1 innings. Cleveland has a record of 70-71, placing them 4th in the Eastern Region Great Lakes Division.
Cleveland used the clutch hitting of Cory Martínez to capture the win. The shortstop drilled a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to give the Indians the lead, 9-6. For the game, Martínez had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
"We take it day by day here," said Martínez, "and today was a good one for us."
