Portland third baseman Tommy Brewster contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a fastball to left field for a 2-run single. It was his 116th hit of the season and put the Hops ahead, 4-1.

"Nice to get this one," said Brewster. "We've been scuffling."
